(age, late 20s) By the way, hauberks were a form of armour and made of chain maille and chausses of cloth(chausses for armour were made of chain maille). What time period and area is your story set? These two factors influence clothing style the most. ErikLukian I'm writing a story with a knight character, and I'd like to know what they wore when they weren't at war. What kind of clothing did they wear everyday; more specifically, was there armor that they always wore, such as protective leather clothing like a hauberk, chausses, etc.? Or did they wear cloth when not at war? The scene I'm writing won't work if leather or protective clothing was worn daily, so I want to check the facts before I write something wrong. Erik Schmidt Hey Lukian,
the basic answer to your question is that they didn't wear armour when not at war.
What they wore was dependant on the time period and social status, but I am not aware of any leather clothing worn other than shoes and belts.
